Navarre Real Estate Blog

I recently had a baby- life is great!
We have always wanted to open our home to adopt or foster a child
in need. Maybe one, two, three or more. The timing now is perfect!
So, three weeks ago I called the Department of Children & Families
here in Santa Rosa County so that we could sign up for the mandatory
6 week class. It's held on Monday evenings from 6pm until 9pm just
ONCE a year in Navarre.
I explained to the agency that we had a baby but she would be sleeping
during the ENTIRE class and would not be a disruption whatsoever
since she was only 8 weeks old. This little girl never cries...
The person on the phone said that they are desperate for caregivers
and it would probably be ok but it would have to be left up to the
class instructor.
I got a call back that the instructor said NO, we could not bring
a baby who would sleep the entire time..
I think that is wrong. VERY WRONG. We have no criminal background,
are emotionally stable, responsible and can offer a secure home.
Our baby is too young to have a babysitter watch- and besides doesn't
that show our dedication as parents?
It's just absolutely crazy. This time next year when the class is
being offered, our daughter will be one year old. And yes, she would
be a disruption to the class. And NO, I wouldn't get a babysitter,
I prefer she be with us at all times while she's so little.
Anyways, we could've made a huge difference in the life of a child/children
that needed a home with love and stability. But, because of this
instructor it's going to be about five years until we're willing
to get childcare and take this mandatory 6 week course.
